Quarter 8 - Lesson 9:
Case Study: Using the Technique of Derivations on a Revolution - Part 1

By applying the technique of derivations on the natal chart and 2007 Solar Return of Bilawal Bhutto Zadari, the eldest child of Benazir Bhutto, the slain Pakistani opposition leader, we are able to forecast her untimely (but not surprising) assassination on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan while campaigning to become prime minister for a third time.

Applying derivations to the natal and solar charts of her son to forecast events for the mother vividly demonstrates the need for a disciplined approach to delineation and forecasting. And this is the goal of this lesson and in every sense illustrates and summarizes what has been a fundamental underlying goal of this entire program, namely the development of good work habits. For without the latter, the lesson quickly demonstrates through the added complexity brought by use of derivations how the practitioner can become disoriented, confused, and discouraged.

And so, we repeat what has been stressed form the very first Quarter of our program, i.e., you must train yourself to develop habits that encourages you to prioritize, simplify, and economize your observations and thinking as you examine a chart in a structured and systematic manner. And this is needed practically as a means to protect yourself from becoming overwhelmed (and possibly discouraged) by the enormous amount of information present in a natal chart not to mention the additional complexity brought when applying forecasting or other techniques in conjunction with the natal.

This having been said, by applying the considerations from Chapter 18 in Morin's Book 23, we illustrate easily through vividly clear considerations the tragic misfortune foreseen for the mother (through the use of derivations) from the son's natal chart and 2007 solar chart.

The ability to apply derivations in this fashion is important for the practitioner. To quote the late Zoltan Mason of New York, "Nine out of ten questions asked by a client can be answered through the proper use of derivations." And so your livelihood as well as your reputation as a practitioner depends not only on your discipline but also on your ability to apply this technique and others when a client asks common questions in relation to those around the client that are important to the client.
