We continue to consolidate our skills emphasizing a structured approach to forecasting. This means, when it comes to the application of transits, we always want to know what to expect from them in terms of duration and strength; this again speaks to the issue of quantity, quantity in terms of time, quantity in terms of situation. And as with the application of any other forecasting technique, we must always put the transit in context. And so again we emphasize the cardinal rule when employing any forecasting technique: Get acquainted with the natal first. Nothing can occur to a person that is not already seen in the natal.

So after an analysis of the natal, transits as one of the three traditional forecasting techniques employed by Morin must be put in context with the other two forecasting methods used by him, Primary Directions and Returns. This is especially important as transits alone are not enough of an indicator to explain the timing or occurrence of the very important life events already presaged in the natal. Morin calls this the search for "concurrent causes".

We illustrate the relevant Primary Directions and Returns in force for our example chart and how they concur with transits to bring about the events in the person's life. We will do this more and more as we proceed in our studies to emphasize the need to take these latter techniques into account when it comes to forecasting important life events as well as to give a foretaste of program content to come.

Our lesson traces through a series of yearly transits the tragedy of Rachel Entwistle an American homicide victim and her 9-month daughter who were found dead in their home in Hopkinton, MA on January 22, 2006. The husband Neil, the prime suspect is an unemployed electrical engineer who allegedly has been in financial difficulties and reportedly set up web sites with get-rich-quick pyramid schemes as well as sites for marketing pornographic material.

The motives of the husband, the alleged killer become clear from the study of Rachel's natal chart through the process of derivations.
