Quarter 2 - Lesson 8: On Derivations
One of the most useful tools for the practicing astrologer is called house derivations. It is by the use of these so-called derivations that most of the questions asked by a client can be answered.
If we ask how many houses are found in a chart, without giving much thought, we would all say 12. But actually, there are 144 houses. There are the 12 radix houses and the rest that would be derived from these former. When we say that we find a planet in the 12th, we mean the 12th of the person, but actually, there are twelve 12th houses. For example, the 12th of your boss is your 9th.
But as Zoltan Mason said, the great skill required to properly use this technique is the ability to associate an event or person with the correct house. As such, incorrect derivations can make this technique dangerous if improperly applied.
We go into a discussion of proper technique as developed by Morin in Book 21 of his Astrologia Gallica (that was published under the title Astrosynthesis) and then illustrate its use with a number of charts including those of the late Princess Diana, Prince Charles, and their two children, Princes Harry and William.
These latter charts of the royals particularly serve to illustrate the usefulness of house derivations when correctly applied. For example, examination of each of the charts forewarn of Princess Diana's untimely and tragic death as well as how her destiny was linked with that of her them paramour.
