Quarter 2 - Lesson 7:
On the Phenomena of House Distortion

When examining a chart, one of the most frequently observed but least appreciated phenomenon is "House Distortion", that is when the sequence of signs following the rising sign does not follow the corresponding number of houses. For example, if a person has Gemini rising but instead of Libra on the 5th House cusp, we see Virgo.

While this condition can be easily explained astronomically as a consequence of obliquity and the latitude of the birthplace, what are the consequences from an astrological viewpoint on the person's behavior pattern? Is this an interference and if so how will the interference be manifested?

Similarly, we observe other common house distortions like a trine by sign between the 1st and 10th house where we would expect to find a natural square. How do we know that this is an issue, and if it is an issue, how do we approach this problem, what is our measure?

We fall back on our study of the Archetype, that is the 12 signs of the zodiac taken as a unit to find the answers. The Archetype is the norm, the ideal measure for the student of astrology that gives the answer and demonstrates that the issue of house distortion presents itself when we observe a trine (by sign) when we expect a square (as between the 1st and the 10th - that means the same Quadruplicity) or when we observe a square or quincunx (by sign) where there should be a natural trine (which means the same Triplicity) as between the 1st and 5th .

We illustrate this topic drawing on the charts of Ben Affleck as well as those from my own cases.
