Quarter 2 - Lesson 3:
On Planets as Universal Significators and their abuse

This lesson covers Morin's explanation of his Theory of Determination in relation to Universal Significators. We cover his views on the abuse of Universal Significators by the old astrologers as well as by some of his contemporary counterparts. By "abuse" he means that a planet as for example the Sun cannot mean gold any more than it can mean the king, the father, the heart, or anything else. To mean one thing more than another, it must be specifically determined towards a particular house, be it by position, rulership, aspect, or ricochet.

He defines a Universal Significator to be any planet taken universally meaning its essential nature and zodiacal state alone without determination towards any house by position or rulership. The word universal means "non-specific", any influence that is not determined towards any one thing.

He goes on to explains that the confusion arises because a Planet's analogical meaning is abused and that we must appreciate that each planet does have an analogy to various classes of sublunar things that correspond to a planet's essential nature.
