We often hear curious expressions such as, "As you imagine, so you become", or "You create yourself with the choices you make." What is the meaning behind these intriguing statements and how do they relate to astrology? These expressions are based upon and express the fundamental relationship that exists between the 1st House and the 10th House of which we call its cusp the Midheaven or the MC.

Or put another way, these statements express a basic relationship that exists between the two dimensions of the human mind, space and time which we noted in our last lesson. The goal of this lesson is to demonstrate the fundamental relationship that the First House bears to the Tenth House. The Tenth House is the realization of the person’s efforts expressed in the outside physical world.

The important point to be made in regard to the Midheaven’s study is that we must grasp it though the "lens" of the Ascendant. We must recall that the basis of the 10th House is the 1st House.

Part two of the lecture deals with the topic of "house distortion", that is, what are the consequences of not have the same element on the cusp of the 5th and 9th houses, or not have a natural square between the 1st and the 10th houses.
