David Elliott
David Elliott is a student of astrology, ancient history and philosophy. David began his astrological studies while practicing celestial navigation at sea in 1970. He began a formal course of astrological study under the mentorship of Zoltan Mason in 1971 in New York City. Through the disciplined teaching of Zoltan Mason, who was the intellectual heir of Morinus, David came to understand that the astrological archetype was of utmost value in the understanding of history and human behavior.

Advaita Vedanta is David's primary metaphysical discipline which he has studied since 1968. He had the great fortune to be able to hear the teachings of Swami Dayanada Saraswati and his best students in the 1970's. It was through Dayananda that he was taught the meaning of the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the writings of Sri Shankaracharya and Sureswara. David also studies the canon of ancient western history and philosophy with an emphasis on Aristotle and Thucydides.

David is a professional construction manager and maintains his physical education through long distance cycling, western calisthenics and Hatha yoga. He presently resides in Ravenna, Ohio.

  • Gilgamesh: An Alchemical Tale
The epic of Gigamesh recounts the magnificent deeds and travels of the greatest king of Uruk in ancient Mesopotamia. Gilagamesh lived in ancient Sumeria about 2,700 BCE. The story of his distinguished life and accomplishments was written down shortly after his death and was maintained as a literary tradition through the Akkadian, Babylonian and Assyrian periods in the ancient near east.

Even though the story was reserved for a select few in the ancient past it has a read with the eye of one who is familiar with traditional philosophy and, most especially, alchemy, it comes perfectly alive.

The story abounds with the most fundamental images in the ancient tradition of the alchemical arts. Foremost in this imagery was the fact that Gilgamesh was a king, thereby showing that this is a story directly related to the royal art. His tremendous feats of action form a perfect series of alchemical accomplishments. Events in the epic lead Gilgamesh on a truly remarkable journey to the land of Utnupishtim of the faraway, who had survived the flood. It is there in the faraway land that Gilgamesh comes face to face with the fundamental problem that he is so determined to solve.

This tale brings the relationship between human consciousness, demonic existence and divine power to a fascinating and exhilarating height.

This talk will expand on this very topic and attempt to bring forth all the wonder and grandeur of this great epic tale.
