ASTROLOGICAL APHORISMS
Week of: November 16, 2001

  1. If a person has a remarkable life, this must be seen in the natal horoscope. If not, there are only two possible reasons: either the birth information is incorrect or one doesn't yet have the skills and/or experience to appreciate what is present.

  2. When it comes to any form of forecasting, the most important consideration is the natal chart. In general, if an event is not seen in the chart, it will not happen to the person. If a given thing is seen in the chart, the question is always, when may the event be expected?

  3. Morin mentions that prediction is based on four considerations. In order of importance, they are first, an understanding of the natal chart itself. After that, there are the Primary Directions, the Solar & Lunar Returns, and lastly, the Transits.

  4. Primary Directions are the arcs of space formed by the celestial sphere's diurnal motion between a significant point in the chart such as the Ascendant or Midheaven with a planet, either by conjunction or aspect. Ancient astrologers considered the Primary Directions to be the most objective, effective, and reliable way to predict the significant events in a person's life.

  5. Solar and Lunar Returns are based on the return of these bodies to the positions they hold in the natal chart. They give respectively an indication of the significant events for 12 month and 27.3 day periods. A Solar or Lunar Return will show if it is cooperating with the natal to allow what already exists in the natal to break out.

  6. Transits are like the weather. Some days are sunny and others are not. Astronomically, Transits are the contacts made by the actual bodies in the sky at the moment with important points in the natal chart.

  7. According to Morin, Transits are the least important of the forecasting techniques. They serve very often to trigger or culminate an event that is seen in the natal and has been put in motion by the Primaries and Returns.
