ASTROLOGICAL APHORISMS
Week of: September 14, 2001

  1. Zodiacal state is a topic seldom discussed by modern astrologers and when it is, it is usually done in a superficial manner and not with the complete feeling that the ancient astrologers wanted to convey.

  2. The zodiacal state of a planet refers to what the ancient astrologers called the planetary dignities. The six dignities are Domicile, Detriment, Exaltation, Fall, Triplicity, or Peregrine. For example, the Moon in Cancer is said to be in Domicile, or Venus in Scorpio is in Detriment, or the Sun in Aries is in Exaltation, etc.

  3. The zodiacal state of a planet is a measure of a planet's quality (or values) which can range from subtle, fine, ethical, and spiritual to gross, base, unethical, and material.

  4. From a functional viewpoint, zodiacal state or planetary diginity expresses the planet's constructive or destructive influence.

  5. Each planet realizes something according to its own nature, but its zodiacal state indicates the ways and means something is obtained and used.

  6. The good zodiacal state means that you use the correct ways and means to obtain something, that the thing obtained becomes a source of happiness, and that it will be maintained lifelong.

  7. The bad zodiacal state means that you may or may not obtain something sought after but if you obtain the thing sought after, it will become a source of unhappiness and misfortune, and it will not be maintained.

  8. Judging the quality of a planet is one of the most difficult skills to acquire which depends to a great extent on experience. Judgment of quality should always be made with great care on the astrologer's part.

  9. The zodiacal state of a planet depends first on the sign in which it is placed but its dispositor (that is the planet that rules the sign in which it is placed) and the aspects it receives also participate strongly in the judgment of a planet's quality.
