Quarter 3 - Lesson 1

Introduction to Quarter 3

The goal of Quarter 3 is to clarify and solidify the basic techniques that form the foundation of chart synthesis. While analysis allows us to break down the chart and observe its basic parts, synthesis depends on speed and economy of our thinking. These latter skills are the only way to get our impressions of the horoscope that we obtain through analysis to flash together with lightning speed.

What must be understood is that before synthesis begins, we must have gathered together the appropriate considerations to be synthesized. If this step is not done correctly, we will be led to erroneous conclusions or deductions about the individual whose chart we are interpreting.

There is always a possibility that we could overlook something important when we study a chart. To ensure a greater degree of confidence that we have gathered the relevant considerations, we must develop some very basic habits when it comes to analysis of a chart. The most basic and also the most important habit to inculcate in ourselves is the habit to always measure, and what we measure continuously are only two things in a chart: QUANTITY and QUALITY of planetary influences.

Lesson 1 of Quarter 3 demonstrates the value of measurement as a prerequisite to synthesis and the development of the habit to measure influences. Employing this technique, we flush out important considerations in our example charts that otherwise would be overlooked and thus we would be led either to the erroneous conclusions about these individuals or the inability to explain their behavior and destiny.

The lesson is prefaced with a review of the anthropological factors that condition a person's life and a discussion on the value of the Archetype as an ideal model to express the purposefulness of life.

Our example horoscope is that of the well known television network anchor, Barbara Walters.
