Quarter 1 - Lesson 7

Topics: On the Moon and On the concept of Quantity

Lesson 7 covers the topic of the Moon and its value and context within a chart. Our discussion of the Moon along with example charts is preceded with a discussion on QUANTITY. Point 3 of the methodology deals with the quantitative measurement of a planetary influence.

When we use the word "quantity", we mean how much of a particular planetary influence is present. For example, we know that every person has the Moon in their chart. The questions are, how great is the impact of the Moon on a particular chart and what are the considerations that permit us to make that measurement? The concept of quantity is an important topic and particularly relevant when we consider the value of the Moon in a horoscope.

The Moon is our instinctual drives which are based on memory and on the passage of time. It is our inborn cravings that hunger to be satisfied and when fulfilled, we declare we are happy. The Moon is connected with habit formation and as such, plays a role in the formation and maintenance of behavior.

Among the factors found in a horoscope, the Moon is second only to the Ascendant in order of importance. In order of priority, the Sun comes after the Ascendant and the Moon, its purpose being only to realize the innate needs of the Moon. It is these three parts of a chart that constitute the framework or architecture of a human being; all other considerations are there to support these three. Each of the three "sub-units" must be carefully analyzed, built up, and then combined with one another to form a living image of the person whose chart we are studying.

All future lessons build and expand upon this triad. It is their interaction that we must appreciate if we are to understand the needs and motives of a person.
