Quarter 1 - Lesson 11
The outer evolution has to do with the person (as represented through the Ascendant) realizing himself or herself in the outside world. In a horoscope, this realization is seen in the 10th house. The Tenth House is the realization of the profession of the person. In the modern world, and especially in the West, to realize oneself is very much connected with the 10th house. The realization consists in obtaining enough money to be able to survive and eventually to also have a partner and offspring.
The question is, is there an other kind of evolution? Our souls are attached to the Earth through our senses which creates in a human being the illusion of feeling limited and incomplete. This sense of limitation is expressed as a sense of wanting and hunger. By the fulfillment of these cravings through the achievements of our pursuits and goals in life, we hope to escape the limitations imposed by nature and the environment. This kind of evolution has to do with the Moon escaping the limitations of the houses and going towards the Sun. This is another kind of evolution.
A human being can make two journeys in life. There is the outer journey with the Ascendant's realization in the 10th house and there is the inner journey of the Soul with its struggle to escape from the Earth and to go towards the Spirit. This struggle has a lot to do with the Moon and its relationship to the Sun in a person's chart. This evolution has to do with the development of ethical values as a means to escape the tremendous tug of the Earth on the soul.
It must become ever more clear as we progress in our studies that the horoscope is a complex interaction of the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant with all other considerations playing a participating but supporting role in this inner and outer evolution of a human being.
